The Atrium: Exceptional Dementia Care with the Warmth of Home.
The extraordinary new memory care center in La Jolla, CA.
Canaries and finches flutter in the treetops under a panoramic glass ceiling. The aroma of home cooking fills the air from the hearth of our family-sized kitchen. Part of our newly completed $50 million expansion, The Atrium feels like a beautiful home with private suites. Yet it’s a secure environment, designed for the safety and comfort of its residents.
The Atrium has some of the most qualified staff in the business. They’re called Guias—Spanish for “guides”—because they truly fulfill that role, gently helping residents maintain cognitive skills. While each Guia has a specific responsibility, all are cross-trained in a broad range of specialties: Alzheimer’s and dementia care, infection control, nutrition, wellness, housekeeping and more.
The Atrium is the first Southern California Presbyterian Homes memory care center to earn Eden certification, which usually takes years to achieve. The Eden designation signifies that our front-line staff has decision-making power; they’re entrusted to improve the quality of resident life without needing bureaucratic approvals. That’s The White Sands of La Jolla way.
“Having a network and community here means I am held up and taken care of through thick and thin. The other residents are there to take care of me and I’m there to take care of them—though always I get more from taking care of them than anything. The key is community and support. My sweetie’s working on dementia and it’s so good for him to be surrounded by people that truly care
for him.”
